Overcoming Roaming Restrictions in Brazil with 1oT eSIM

In the past few years, Brazil has worked hard to keep up with a rapidly growing global IoT market.

In March 2018, the Brazilian government launched a nationwide IoT plan, involving developments in robotics, 5G connectivity, and most recently a technology centre solely dedicated to expanding its IoT footprint.

This change has understandably piqued the interest of the IoT companies who want to expand their business in the 5th largest country in the world. However, their efforts are overshadowed by a roadblock - for years, Brazil has been implementing strict permanent roaming regulations for all connectivity users, consumers and IoT cases alike.

The current roaming regulations in Brazil don't allow foreign IMSIs to roam for more than 90 days. After the time limit is reached, there is a high probability that the connections will be blocked.

In the case of international transit, logistics, and fleet management the roaming restriction might not be that big of an issue. 

But the stationary IoT devices, or devices roaming longer within Brazil, require a different solution. In this case, one of 1oT’s Global eSIM profiles would be a reasonable choice.

Localised eSIM profile for Brazil

Getting started with 1oT eSIM

When starting with a 1oT eSIM, our Sales and Engineering teams help customers navigate the eUICC testing phase and hardware (cellular module) compatibility checks. It's important to note that not all cellular modules support over-the-air provisioning capabilities. However, the newer LTE modules have the needed functionality.

After a successful testing phase, our Customer Success and/or Account Management team will be supporting the larger-scale manufacturing, deployment and after-service.

Customers can manage and monitor their eUICC connections via the 1oT proprietary connectivity management platform (CMP) called 1oT Terminal. It's a powerful yet user-friendly self-service platform with rich functionality, especially in automating SIM-related tasks.

All SIM management features are backed with RESTful API, which allows integrating SIM management with existing device management platforms or systems. The additional value of 1oT eSIM is related to supply chain optimisation.
