Let’s wrap up 2024 by looking back at our biggest achievements, projects, and how we’ve grown with our customers.

Also, check out our Terminal rewind to see how we improved our connectivity management platform this year.

Streamlining connectivity for connected cars

In February, we announced that we’d spend the next two years building a comprehensive eSIM solution and connectivity management platform for the mobility industry. We also got the European Union’s research and development funding to support our efforts.

So far, we have added several new people to our development team and achieved one important goal of the project – developing a crucial component of the new IoT eSIM standard.

We became the second in the world to certify the eIM

Our eSIM team spent the first half of the year updating our SM-DP+ and developing the eIM (eSIM IoT Remote Manager) based on the SGP.32 specification. Thanks to this, we became the second company in the world (and the first in Europe) to receive the GSMA SAS-SM provisional certification for the eIM in June.

The eIM plays a critical role in the SGP.32 standard by facilitating eSIM profile management and eIM configuration operations on the eSIM and initiating profile downloads from various SM-DP+ platforms. The new IoT variant with the eIM platform is an essential requirement for the seamless deployment and management of IoT devices worldwide.

Sharing our knowledge about the IoT eSIM

Talking about our eIM development process is related to our general principle of publicly sharing our knowledge about the IoT eSIM specification. We started at the end of 2023 with blog posts detailing everything we knew about the new eSIM standard and our plans regarding it. This year, we’ve continued with our efforts and shared a lot of valuable information.

We organized a webinar in collaboration with KPN IoT, where we discussed the most important aspects of the IoT eSIM standard. We invited guests from KPN IoT, Thales, and COMPRION to hear opinions and perspectives from all the different industry players on how the standard will impact IoT connectivity and the importance of its various components. You can watch the entire webinar on YouTube.

We also made a public presentation that serves as a collection of all our IoT eSIM-related knowledge. We use the presentation to share our development roadmap and invite others to cooperate with us to test the different components.

Establishing 1oTurkey

In May, we announced our expansion to Turkey to offer our seamless cellular connectivity to even more IoT companies!

With 85 million people, Turkey has a huge economy and promises great potential for new IoT deployments. Now, instead of talking to several providers to find the best deal, companies can use 1oT to deploy their IoT devices all across Turkey.

We’ll share more about our Turkey adventures very soon!

Growing with our customers

Electrifying communities with Okra Solar

Okra Solar is a technology startup that produces hardware and software to set up solar mesh-grids—a network of interconnected solar home systems. They’ve been using 1oT’s connectivity since 2021, and their 3000 devices bring power to 15,000 people in Haiti, Nigeria, and Cambodia.

As Okra Solar grows, they’re looking to set up systems that weren’t essential at first. For example, deploying thousands of new devices means saving data is more critical than it was with fewer devices.

Read our case study, in which they shared their experience using 1oT Terminal to manage their SIMs and how they use it to automate processes and cut data costs.

How we power Matroid’s computer vision solution

Matroid develops cutting-edge AI-powered computer vision solutions. They integrate with existing camera systems to analyze image and video streams without invasive setups.

For example, Matroid’s systems detect production errors in manufacturing processes, identify safety hazards in workplaces, and offer real-time monitoring for airplane turnaround.

Matroid needed a connectivity solution that offered dependable and scalable cellular coverage across North America, reliable backup solutions to minimize downtime during outages, and a remote SIM management possibility to service and update devices without customer intervention.

Take a look at how our solution answered Matroid’s connectivity needs.

Making our mark on the IoT industry

We started the year celebrating because the IoT Breakthrough Awards named us winners in the “M2M Cellular Service Provider of the Year” category. This was an important recognition to our team for building such an awesome eSIM infrastructure and connectivity management platform!

We became an Industry Member of the GSMA! The membership gives us access to working groups and discussions that shape the GSMA’s development work.

Our hands-on experience developing the M2M, consumer, and IoT eSIM and delivering connectivity to enterprises has given us valuable insights to share with other industry leaders. Our goal is to contribute to developing a cloud-based SM infrastructure and extend the existing eSIM profile management APIs. Therefore, we’re particularly looking forward to participating in the discussions about eSIM and its roadmap.

We also attended 14 conferences this year (that’s 1 less than in 2023). And at 4 of them, we had our own booth! As is tradition, we started with the CES in Las Vegas, but this time, we finished with the London EV Show.

We’re grateful to all our partners, clients, and the amazing 1oTeam for making 2024 so special! We’re now looking forward to announcing some big news in early 2025, so make sure to follow our LinkedIn page and subscribe to our monthly newsletter!
